Kids are challenged every Sunday to trust God, make wise choices, and build lasting friendships. Each Sunday morning there is a biblical value that is summarized in a bottom line statement and reinforced in several ways. We use costumes, props, and characters from the story - anything that makes the Bible come to life. Each week all the kids sing as loud as they want and tell God how much they love Him through song and active worship. Every Sunday they connect with the same small group of kids and the same small group leader. That way they get connected and we have the best chance to establish a relationship that's going to matter when they need it most.
Here's what a typical morning at Kidtropolis looks like.
Kindergarten- 2nd graders:
• Each child is welcomed at their room (K’s are in 210-209 and 1st/2nd graders are upstairs in student center) by a greeter and a new child is introduced to a small group leader in their class.
• K-2nd grade kids meet with an age appropriate small group for an activity meant to introduce the bottom line for the morning.
• At 10 minutes after the hour, they transition to go downstairs to the gym for worship and large group programming time.
• K- 2nd graders will be escorted back upstairs for small groups meant to reinforce the bottom line for the morning in the Student Center and parents will pick up their child from there.
3rd- 5th graders:
• Each child is welcomed at the gym by a greeter and a new child is introduced to a small group leader.
• 3rd-5th grade kids first begin with large group programming in the gym and join with K-2nd graders for an energized worship time.
• After large group and worship, they will transition to small group activities meant to reinforce the bottom line for the morning (they will remain in the gym).
• When Kidtropolis ends, 3rd-5th graders grade parents pick up their child from the gym.
Curriculum
We use 252 Basics, a web-based curriculum for K-5th graders. Based on Luke 2:52, the curriculum is built around three basic truths.
1. Wisdom: I need to make the wise choice.
2. Faith: I can trust God no matter what.
3. Friendship: I should treat others the way I want to be treated.
The Three Basic Truths are amplified through 36 monthly virtues (such as kindness, generosity and faith) and 150 Bible stories. Every week there is a key TRUTH or bottom line that we drive home. It's the ONE THING we want kids to understand and grab onto during their hour at Kidtropolis.
252 Basics provides three tools that will help you take what we've talked about at Kidtropolis home with you so that you can talk about it all week long.
God Time Books (for Kids)
A monthly devotional and interactive journal to help children each week focus their attention on spending time reading the Bible and talking to God at home. Kids can pick up their God Time books from their small group leaders or at the dismissal doors in Kidtropolis. Our desire is that this will help them establish a lifelong habit of spending regular time with God.
Refrigerator Door (for Parents)
When you pick up your kids at their classrooms, we'll give you a printed piece that gives you the virtue and its definition, a monthly memory verse, the bottom line, a question to prompt discussion and a preview of what we'll be talking about next week.
Family Times Kit
The Family Times Kit is a resource designed to provide you with a tool to teach kids about faith and character. It synchronizes with the same virtues and Bible stories taught each week in Kidtropolis. "Family Times" has conversation starters for meal time, Bible stories for bedtimes, and creative skits on CD for drive-time and can be purchased for $10 at the Sunset children’s desk (limited selection) or on line at www.252basics.com
